Ram’s New Midsize Truck Set to Rival the Toyota Tacoma
Ram's been out of the midsize pickup truck game for over a decade, and the market is hot. As of last year, trucks like the Toyota Tacoma, Chevrolet Colorado, and Ford Ranger are all new, and now Ram has confirmed that it will reenter the segment in 2027.

Ram's New Pickup Could Offer Multiple Powertrains
Automotive News first reported the news, confirming Ram's parent company, Stellantis, announcement that it will restart production at its plant in Belvidere, Illinois. That's where the Jeep Cherokee was built until it was discontinued a few years ago. Ram's last midsize offering, the Dakota, ceased production in 2011, and the company still owns the name.
A dealership memo reveals Ram is shelving the Long-Range REV in favor of the range-extended Ram Ramcharger electric truck.
However, the new midsize pickup remains unnamed, and we have few details besides that it will offer gas, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric powertrains, which a Ram spokesperson confirmed to Car and Driver. Expect a body-on-frame construction similar to the company's new STLA Frame platform, which supports the upcoming plug-in hybrid Ram 1500 Ramcharger and all-electric Ram 1500 REV. That frame can support a wheelbase as little as 123.7 inches long and vehicle widths between 81.2 and 83.6 inches, perfect for a small truck. If we know Ram at all, there should also be a performance-oriented off-road model to rival the Ford Ranger Raptor and Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro.
Ram sells a midsize pickup in Brazil called the Rampage, and it's been seen being tested in the U.S., so things could heat up quickly. We'll know more details about Ram's reentry into the midsize pickup truck market in the next year, as it could debut as early as 2026.
