Thomas Tuchel left with England U21s dilemma as rival makes priority clear

Thomas Tuchel is considering flying around the world to watch England’s under-21s in their Euros final. The Young Lions have booked their spot in a second consecutive final following a stunning run under Lee Carsley.

They beat the Netherlands 2-1 on Wednesday to seal their place in the final and will now come up against Germany on Saturday. The game represents split allegiances for Tuchel as his home country comes up against his current employers.

And Tuchel has not yet decided whether to be at the game or not. The German is currently in the USA watching a number of his senior stars in action at the Club World Cup, while he is also expected to enjoy a holiday in the States once the tournament comes to an end.

But the ex-Chelsea man could yet choose to make a hectic trip over to Slovakia to see the under-21s in action. As per The Sun, he is still mulling over a trip to watch the game.

And should he make the trip then he will likely bump into current Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann, who is reportedly set to snub a holiday on a yacht in the Mediterranean in order to attend the match.

Current England under-21 boss and ex-senior interim head coach Carsley has already hailed the support that he is receiving from Tuchel and his staff. Speaking earlier this week, he said: “No insider tips but like I said he's very supportive of the players and the squad and I know that he's watching the players and the games.

“Hopefully we can give him something to ponder in terms of the way that some of the players' reputations are hopefully gaining momentum. He's watching the games, as are the rest of the staff, and I feel very well supported by him.”

That all came after Carsley revealed that he had been putting together a detailed dossier for Tuchel to use once he took the reins earlier this year. Speaking before his final game, he said: “I’m trying to put together, with the rest of the staff, a debrief on all three camps.

“I will put together a document, then hopefully meet him and present what we think and what we’ve found. The job for us as an under-21 staff is to support the senior manager as much as we can, find out what he needs and how we can help. I’m really comfortable with that role. I’m looking forward to meeting him now in the next few weeks.”

England will retain their European crown with another victory in Slovakia on Saturday. The Young Lions beat Spain 1-0 two years ago to win the tournament for the first time since 1984.
