Bruno Fernandes reveals three places where he’d want to play after Manchester United
Bruno Fernandes revealed the three destinations where he’d want to play when he leaves Manchester United.
The Portuguese midfielder said this during a blockbuster interview with Portuguese outlet Canal11, where he also revealed that he believes the higher-ups at the club wanted him to leave last summer.
Fernandes was heavily linked to a move worth over £100 million to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, but ultimately chose to turn down the offer for family reasons, as well as speaking with Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim.
The club’s minority owner, Sir Jim Radcliffe, has made it clear that the club needs to raise funds, particularly after consecutive seasons of missing out on Champions League qualification. Therefore, it’s feasible that the club would be keen on selling Fernandes, one of the few players they’ll be able to sell for a profit.
Nonetheless, Fernandes stayed at Old Trafford, with the feeling being that he’ll likely leave next summer when United are hopefully back in European football. In the same interview with Canal11, Fernandes went on to reveal where he’d like to play.
‘I would like to experience the Spanish league and fight for big titles in Italy, I have many connections to Italy… my daughter was born there.
‘I’ve already thought about returning to Portugal… the first option would be Sporting. To be happy, like it was with Sporting. But I don’t want to ruin the image that was left.
‘But I don’t want to drag myself there, I want to add to it. And even try district football, at an advanced age. You play in the district for love, you feel different. I have friends in the district.’
Fernandes previously played in Italy for Novara, Udinese and Sampdoria before moving to Sporting in Portugal in 2017. Since joining Manchester United in 2020, he’s had 196 goal contributions in 307 games.
