Liverpool player ratings vs Man City including 5/10 flop in latest defeat
Liverpool's poor Premier League form continued on Sunday afternoon as Manchester City benefitted from late drama Anfield to come from behind.
Following Dominik Szoboszlai's magic opener on 74 minutes, City drew level against the flow of play through Bernardo Silva before snatching an incredible victory when Erling Haaland converted a spot-kick during a whirlwind period that also saw Szoboszlai dismissed.
The outcome means Arne Slot's team now confront a struggle to secure a top-five finish and guarantee Champions League qualification via Premier League position. Here's how Daily Star Sport rated their performances...
Alisson Becker, 5 - Passing occasionally hazardous in challenging weather but made a solid stop from Haaland in the opening period. Little action required after the interval until foolish concession of crucial spot-kick, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Dominik Szoboszlai, 7 - The makeshift right-back came under City pressure initially and didn't assist his cause with some wayward distribution, but significantly better after the break in both phases and excellent set-piece delivery for the breakthrough. Left Silva in an onside position for the leveller, however, and was subsequently dismissed during the chaotic finale.
Ibrahima Konate, 8 - Anticipated threats effectively before half-time and contributed more than most to neutralise Marmoush. Sustained his standard throughout in another impressive performance.
Virgil van Dijk, 7 - Struggled at times when attempting to play on the front foot against Haaland, with some aerial difficulties against the striker, but started to gain control after the interval. Received a booking.
Milos Kerkez, 8 - Tenacious when facing former Bournemouth colleague Semenyo and dealt well with one Haaland opportunity. His eagerness to surge forward consistently provided Liverpool with regular openings as the match became more open.
Ryan Gravenberch, 6 - Found it challenging to judge the ball's bounce and City's physicality during a tough start, but emerged as one of several different Liverpool threats in the second half and worked diligently to earn the free-kick for the opener.
Alexis Mac Allister, 6 - Delivered an excellent pass that created an opportunity for Salah but remained largely on the fringes during the first half. Became more influential afterwards and helped Liverpool increase the pressure on City.
Mohamed Salah, 6 - Saw a shot deflected behind before the break and battled against Ait-Nouri, but his quality wasn't quite evident until a superb cross set up a chance for Ekitike in the second half.
Florian Wirtz, 7 - One outrageous touch wowed crowd and decent when on ball, but that wasn't enough before break. Became far more prominent in spell after half-time as Liverpool wrested initiative and one goalbound effort blocked.
Cody Gakpo, 6 - Showed a couple of brief glimpses of threat early on but was hampered on one occasion by his reluctance to use his left foot. Demonstrated plenty of effort and posed more of a danger in the second half. Was substituted.
Hugo Ekitike, 6 - Received limited service in the first half despite working hard to find space and wasted a golden opportunity to break the deadlock. SUBS.
Curtis Jones (for Gakpo 85), N/A - Had a few decent touches.
Federico Chiesa (for Kerkez 90+4), N/A - Delivered a cross.
