Arsenal set to receive millions back from Newcastle days after Bruno Guimaraes transfer

 Arsenal could be set to recoup some of the £75m transfer fee they paid for Bruno Guimaraes just days later, thanks to a shrewd transfer clause included as part of Joe Willock's switch to Newcastle United. The Gunners negotiated a sell-on clause with the Magpies when Willock moved to St. James' Park back in 2021.

The 26-year-old left the Emirates Stadium in a deal valued at £25million after an impressive loan spell with the Magpies, but his five-year stay in the North East may be coming to an end. Willock is now believed to be close to a £17.4m move to Turkish Super Lig outfit Besiktas, with Newcastle having turned down a £10m bid earlier this summer.

Our sister title ChronicleLive reports Willock's representatives have travelled to Turkey to negotiate a move with Besiktas, reportedly reaching agreement on personal terms. The former Arsenal midfielder is entering the final 12 months of his contract at St. James' Park and Newcastle are keen to recoup a fee.

That's positive news for the Gunners, who secured a sell-on clause rumoured to be around 20 per cent, though the precise percentage remains undisclosed. Arsenal spent £75m to take Guimaraes to north London and could bank millions from Willock's prospective move, recouping some of the money paid for the Brazilian.

Gunners fans got a first glimpse of the new midfield addition ahead of the Emirates Cup clash with Borussia Dortmund at the weekend. As for his former Magpies teammate, Willock has featured 168 times for Newcastle, netting 11 goals since his departure from the Gunners.

He broke into the Arsenal first team in 2017 and memorably scored on his Premier League debut against Newcastle in April 2018. Willock racked up 78 appearances and registered 11 goals during four campaigns at the club.

The clause now ensures Mikel Arteta's side will profit financially. Arsenal are looking to bolster their squad ahead of their Premier League title defence, having already brought in Christos Tzolis, Piero Hincapie, Illan Meslier and Guimaraes.

The additional funds will provide a welcome boost in their bid to secure further signings this summer, with the Gunners actively seeking a new left-winger.
